Digital Signage

Not just screens on walls

What is Digital Signage?

Digital signage is the use of digitally powered signs such as LCDs, plasma display panels, kiosk stations, and computer monitors to replace and enhance traditional media, like posters and billboards.

Why is it good to use?

Unlike television commercials which are broadcast to large audiences in their homes, digital signage is direct to select audiences at the point of purchase. Also, unlike television commercials, consumers don't view digital signage advertising as an intrusion - rather, it helps create a better shopping experience for consumers.

Digital signage is a win-win opportunity for businesses. Businesses win once by selling advertising space and again by selling more products. With two thirds of the purchasing decisions made in the store, digital signage can increase sales anywhere between 3% and 300%, depending on the item.

The end user benefits

  • Attention grabbing advertising:
A digital sign brings innovation and movement to previously static media locations, and has the power to get customers' attention.

  • Flexibility of real-time advertising and information:
Digital advertising can be controlled and changed according to the time of the day, availability and can include playing video, displaying text, graphics, animation, photos, and much more.

  • Targeted audiences:
With digital signage, advertising focuses on the best potential customer - an existing one. It's much easier to convince a current customer to purchase a product that is right in front of them than to convince a new customer to come to the store.

  • Cost savings:
Every time digital signage users change their message or campaign, they save on printing costs and processing time.

  • Monitoring:
Digital advertising is more measurable than more traditional forms of advertising.

  • Increased sales:
In-store digital signage can increase sales for most products, and generate impulse sales for products.

  • More educated consumers:
Most consumers view informational signage as positive, which helps brand businesses as consumer oriented.

What makes up a typical system?

CAT5 Video Display System

Distribute multimedia content to hundreds of digital signage displays in real-time

The last step in digital signage
The ultimate out-of-band solution for narrowcasting’s last step, Minicom’s Video Display
System (VDS) is the quickest, most efficient way to move multimedia content from player
to multiple displays.

Deliver audio/video from any type of player to multiple display devices
A one-to-many, point-to-multi-point system for transmission of high quality video (VDS) or
audio and video (AVDS), the system distributes rich multimedia content in real-time from
any type of player to multiple display devices.

Set up display units where they are most effective for your business
VDS provides the flexibility you need for a customized digital signage installation, allowing
you to position your display devices up to 110m/360ft from the player. Mount displays
strategically in public view; keep the hardware needed to run multimedia content out of
public reach.

Digital signage in your place of business for 1/3 the cost
VDS is one of the more cost effective ways to get a digital signage system up and running
in your place of business. For large displays, the cost of plasmas with built-in CPU can
be prohibitive.

DS Vision 3000

CATx Video, Audio & Serial Distribution System

Total distribution & control
The test of any digital signage network is whether it can deliver rich multimedia content from player to distant screens while maintaining perfect image and sound quality, every time. DS Vision 3000 narrowcasts high-definition video and stereo-audio from a single player, over CATx cable, to multiple plasma/LCD screens located up to 300m/1000ft away. Combined with full serial command, the DS Vision 3000 is the ultimate solution for controlling and delivering real-time multimedia content.

Cost-effective modular design
The DS Vision 3000 is a modular system, made up of units that can be exactly moulded to your network requirements without superfluous hardware. The result is a digital signage network streamlined in function and cost-effective on budget.

Monitor and maximise screen life
Featuring full RS-232 bidirectional communication, DS Vision 3000 gives you the ability to remotely query screen operation time – essential for monitoring the remaining life of your screens and a valuable precursor to measuring advertising effectiveness. The system also enables power commands that turn either the entire screen network or screen groups on/off. Screen wear and tear is thus minimised while maximising the life of your digital signage network.

Freedom to put your screens where you want
With extended range, DS Vision 3000 gives you the freedom to set-up your LCD/plasma screens at any desired location, without fear of compromising your media quality and safe in the knowledge that your media player is out of sight and out of unauthorised hands. Whether multiple-screen timetables and advertisements, or single-screen bulletins, signs and training aids, DS Vision 3000 delivers your message, picture perfect, every time.

Realise your digital signage potential
With DS OpticVision’s comprehensive coverage, you can set up your media player kilometres
from the display screens. Alternatively, install screens in new distant locations away from your
main screen cluster. For dispersed installations, connect the system’s receivers to Minicom’s
AVDS or DS Vision 3000 to give instant kilometres of transmission range for hundreds of screens
and multiple screen clusters. Whatever the application, whatever the size catchment area, DS
OpticVision lets you realize the full potential of your digital signage investment.
